Abstract
Laser therapy as an alternative in the treatment of temporomandibular disorders presents the growing relevance of the use of low-level laser in the management of the various presentations of TMD. The study seeks to investigate whether laser therapy can be an effective alternative to conventional drug therapies, highlighting the need for less invasive approaches with fewer side effects. The results of the review indicate that laser therapy is effective in reducing pain and improving mandibular function in patients with TMD. Data collected from several studies indicate that low-level laser therapy provides results comparable to traditional treatments, with a significant decrease in pain reported by patients and improvements in mandibular movements with the differential in the reduction of adverse effects. Laser therapy is a viable and effective alternative in the treatment of temporomandibular disorders, so it is suggested that its adoption can benefit patients who seek less invasive options, pointing to its advantages over conventional treatments. Despite the promising results, we emphasize the importance of further research to consolidate these findings and the inclusion of laser therapy in clinical practice, given its proven efficacy and safety.
